About Us and Ways You Can Help

This website was established to bring together an overall public list of CO2 content of ordinary items. Previously the information has been in specialized sources scattered on the web. The goal is to bring together the most complete list of estimates for CO2, item-by-item, free on the web, so we will know how to reduce our daily use of CO2. Tell us any data we missed.

The site editor is Paul Burke, a US statistician. He has:
  • Been a consultant on the environment, education, development, economics, poverty, gender, and government spending, for the UN Development Program.
  • Been a consultant on student achievement for the US Congress' Office of Technology Assessment.
  • Been President of an environmental group, Stewards of the Potomac Highlands.
  • Been President of the Jefferson County (WV) Planning Commission.
  • Compared curricula in different countries for the US National Commission on Social Studies in Schools.
  • Published many articles on development, tourism, statistics and education; and websites on election security, erosion, education, animal communication and US healthcare.
  • Led seminars at the University of California-Berkeley, Columbia University, Fordham University, Venezuela's National Council on Human Resources, and the International Labor Statistics Center of the US Department of Labor.

He does not have ties to the energy industry, since his career has been in data analysis, housing, education, and water quality.

Costs (and CO2 output) of the website are low, so it takes no outside money. All sources of information are welcome. In order to grow, the site needs volunteers to do tasks like the following:
  • Improve design of the web pages
  • Take the entire website into a larger environmental organization
  • Program the footprint calculator so user data are separate from equations, so equations can be updated and applied more easily
  • Improve data on CO2 from solar, wind, nuclear, hydroelectricity, biofuels
  • Improve rank on search engines
  • Continue finding more CO2 data
Please send whatever information you can, as much as possible in the same format used here.
